From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 722. 1863, August 19, sent from Langenberg, Germany, by Schröter to the synod, to Muehlhaeuser. Schröter war Pastor eines Diasporagemeinde in Sauerlande, Religionslehrer am Lehrerseminar in Soest, hat Muehlhaeuser und Bading kennengelernt und ist jetzt Reiseprediger und Agend der Langenberger, geht nächstens mit Bading zur Versammlung des Gustav-Adolf-Vereins nach Lübeck, und die Langenberger wollen die $100.00 für Reisepredigt in Wisconsin und Minnesota zurückziehen, weil sie bei der geringeren Arbeit und Moldehnkes Professur nicht mehr nötig erscheint.

(Schröter was pastor of a diaspora community in Sauerlande, religion teacher at the teachers’ seminar in Soest, met Muehlhaeuser and Bading and is now a traveling preacher and agenda of the Langenbergers, is going with Bading to the meeting of the Gustav-Adolf-Verein in Lübeck, and the Langenbergers want the $100.00 Withdraw the travel sermon in Wisconsin and Minnesota because it no longer seems necessary given the smaller work and Moldehnke's professorship.)
