From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Urteil über Sauer, Conrad und Giese zu hart: “So seid ihr Herren immer zu strenge.” Sauer Einführungsanzeige soll Reim nicht bekommen haben? (ordiniert 1. August) Auch in der Katechismusfrage ist Sauer Unrecht geschehen (Vid. Protokoll von Juli 53 in diesem Buche). (Sauer zwar ein Unionist, aber lernbereit und ordnungsliebend, wie das Aussere seiner Briefe zeigt.)

( Judgment on Sauer, Conrad and Giese too harsh: "You gentlemen are always too strict." Sauer's introductory ad is said not to have received rhyme? (Ordained August 1st) Sauer was also wronged on the question of the catechism (Vid. minutes of July 53 in this book). (Sauer is a Unionist, but willing to learn and orderly, as the outside of his letters shows.))
