From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 748. 1863, September 25, sent from Fond du Lac by Kern to Reim. In New Holstein freie Gemeinde, 60 Familien, je $5 auf 3 Jahre jährlich. Wollen nicht reformiert aber auch nicht altlutherisch sein. Kern ist altlutherisch. Viel gebildete Leute. Kern möchte einen jungen Mann als Lehrer haben den er unter d. Hand für d. Seminar vorbilden kann. Auch Pferd und Buggy, muss sonst z. F. [zu Fond du Lac?] gehen.

(In New Holstein free church, 60 families, $5 each for 3 years annually. Don't want to be reformed, but don't want to be old Lutheran either. Kern is old Lutheran. Much educated people. Kern would like to have a young man as a teacher whom he under d. hand for d. seminar can model. Also horse and buggy, otherwise z. F. go [to Fond du Lac?].)
