From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 751. 1863, October 6, sent from Two Rivers by Bartelt to Reim. Hat zuerst in Köhlers Filiale Neshoto, dann in der andern Tannery, dann in Two Rivers, wo Goldammer und Köhler angefangen aber wieder aufgehört haben wegen der allgem. Unglauben, gepredigt und mit Ungläubigen und Logengliedern eine Gemeinde von 50-70 Gliedern gegründet. Hat Gemeindeordnung der Synode eingeführt und unterschreiben lassen und ist jetzt verzagt. Ein auffälligverworrener Mann. Will in eine andere Konferenz, am liebsten Centralkonferenz.

(First in Köhler's Neshoto branch, then in the other Tannery, then in Two Rivers, where Goldammer and Köhler started but stopped again because of the general. Unbelief, preached and founded a congregation of 50-70 members with unbelievers and members of the lodge. Introduced and signed the synod bylaws and is now despondent. A conspicuously confused man. Wants to go to another conference, preferably a central conference.)
