From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 755. 1863, October 13, sent from Town Rich, Mattison County, Illinois, by F. L. Richter to Reim. Kommt aus der Breslauer Synode. Hat Pädagogik, dann an verschiedenen Missionsanstalten für Indien, schliesslich bei Haag undSchneider in Pommern studiert, um Breslauer Pastor zu werden. Haag tont [?] aus der Synode aus und gab den Rat nach Amerika zu gehen. So kam Richter über Fort Wayne bei Fleischmann nach Chicago zu Hartmann, wo er an der evangelisch lutherisch St. Paulsgemeinde geiwrket hat. Von Ebert in Brownsville, Minnesota, an Reim gewiesen, möchter er Synodalkonstitution haben, um in lutherische Synode zu kommen.

(Comes from the Breslau Synod. Studied education, then at various missions in India, finally with Haag and Schneider in Pomerania to become a pastor in Breslau. Haag sounds [?] out of the synod and gave the advice to go to America. So Richter came to Hartmann via Fort Wayne at Fleischmann's in Chicago, where he worked at the Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's Congregation. Referred to Reim by Ebert in Brownsville, Minnesota, he wants synodal constitution to get into Lutheran synod.)
