From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 810. 1864, January 9, sent from Berlin by Eichler and Meyernigh to Reim. Wollen Bading noch bis September behalten. Aber er muss Haus mieten. 500-600 Dollars Gehalt aus der Kollekte, während Moldehnke sein Gehalt ziehen kann, wenn er die Gemeinde neben der Seminar bedient. Meyernigh sagt: Er, nicht Bading, ist auf dem Gedanken gekommen.

(Want to keep Bading until September. But he has to rent house. 500-600 dollar salary from the collection while Moldehnke can draw his salary by serving the church alongside the seminary. Meyernigh says: He, not Bading, thought of it.)
