From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 842. 1864, March 1, sent from Theresa by Conrad to Reim. Berichtet über Gemeinden. Hat Wambsgam, einen Basler und Bekannten Streissguths predigen gehört. Lobt ihn, aber er hält nur nicht für luth. und besonders Streissguth nicht. Jemand hat (wahrscheinlich aus der Centralkonferenz) verraten, dass man von Deutschland aus Moldehnke geraten, nicht lutherisch zu wirken. Sonst sollte man nicht ausplaudern.

(Reported on communities. Heard Wambsgam, a Basler and acquaintance of Streissguth preach. He praises him, but he just doesn't think he's Lutheran and especially not Streissguth. Someone (probably from the Central Conference) revealed that Germany had advised Moldehnke not to appear Lutheran. Otherwise you shouldn't spill the beans.)
