From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 844. 1864, March 1, sent from Fond du Lac by Kern to Reim. Gemeinde hat ihn aufgekündigt. Will vorläufig noch Forest bedienen. Zu den umliegenden Gemeinden kann er nicht ankommen. Zu Fond du Lac gibt es bald eine Kreise: neben lutherische eine reformierte und eine unierte Gemeinde. (der vorige Brief muss wohl später als dieser sein.) Will mediziniert.

(community fired him. Still wants to serve Forest for the time being. He cannot reach the surrounding communities. There will soon be a district for Fond du Lac: in addition to the Lutheran one, there will be a Reformed and a Uniate congregation. (The previous letter must be later than this one.) Will be medicated.)
