From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 989. 1864, October 4, sent from Hermannsburg by Bading to Reim. War in Basel, Stuttgart und Elsass bei Verwandten Reims. Protestiert gegen den von Moldehnke und Hönecke befürworteten grossen Seminarbau, statt das Geld für Dotierung der Professoren zu verwenden. Will jetzt kommen und noch Pastor Bachmann und Lehrer Fur Nedden und vielleicht Höneckes Braut.

(Was in Basel, Stuttgart and Alsace with relatives in Reims. Protests against the large seminar building advocated by Moldehnke and Hönecke, instead of using the money to endow the professors. Will come now and also Pastor Bachmann and teacher Fur Nedden and maybe Hönecke's bride.)
