From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 1035. 1864, December 7, sent from Newton by Kleinert to Reim. Hält es für Sünde dass er sich im Zweifel hat ordinieren und einführen lassen. Köhler gab ihm den richtigen Rat. Streissguth, Dammann und Muehlhaeuser vergaben ihm die Sünde. Aber nun hatte er Zweifel, ob das synodaliter gültig sei. Köhler wiederholte seine ursprüngliche Erklärung. Nun will er die Bestätigung des Praes. treuherzig.

(Considers it a sin that he allowed himself to be ordained and introduced when in doubt. Koehler gave him the right advice. Streissguth, Dammann and Muehlhaeuser forgave him the sin. But now he had doubts as to whether the synodaliter was valid. Koehler repeated his original statement. Now he wants confirmation from Praes. innocent.)
