Koehler's Index: 400. 1860, January 1, sent from Gettysburg by Fr. Schmidt to Muehlhaeuser. Gymnasialbildung bei Secunda. Seit 1857 bei Dr. Ritners in Barmen, hospitiert zugleich in Missionshaus, 1859 bei Hengstenberg, Nitzsch, Piper, Hoffmann in Berlin, dann auf Fabri’s Weisung noch in Gettysburg zu Ordnung in seinen Studien zu bringen. Aus 4 Gründen nicht länger studieren, sondern Praxis und zwar in einer nicht zu eingebildeten Gemeinde. Gruss an Gausewitz und Strube.

(High school education at Secunda. Since 1857 with Dr. Ritners in Barmen, at the same time interns in the mission house, in 1859 at Hengstenberg, Nitzsch, Piper, Hoffmann in Berlin, then on Fabri's instructions to get his studies in order in Gettysburg. No longer study for 4 reasons, but practice in a community that is not too conceited. Greetings to Gausewitz and Strube.)
