Biographical / Historical

The Commission on Christian Literature was authorized by the 1963 synod in convention. The Synod Praesidium selected nine men based on nominations from Northwestern Publishing House. The purpose of the CCL was to “plan and promote the publishing of Christian literature. It shall have the authority to commission writers and to determine the amount of reimbursement for such writers. It shall unify the publishing program of the synod.” Among the various projects overseen by the CCL are the translation of Pieper’s Isaiah II commentary, a reprinting of Schaller’s Biblical Christology, and The People’s Bible series. The CCL gave its final report to the synod in convention in 1985, when it was disbanded due to financial restrictions.
