From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 689. 1863, May 1, sent from Town Herman, Dodge County, by Sauer to Bading. Ist nach Kripplein Christi verzogen. In Immanuel, Gnaden und Beckelsgemeinde ist Gefahr des Unionismus, den die Synode vor sieben Jahren einführte und letzter Jahr Sauer zur Last legte. Tritt für “Gnaden” gegen Beckelsgemeinde ein. “Gnaden” hat sich d. luth. Bekenntnis gefügt. Die soll man jetzt nicht sitzen lassen.

(Moved to Christ's crib. In Immanuel, Grace and Beckelsgemeinde there is a danger of unionism, which the synod introduced seven years ago and last year Sauer blamed. Stand up for “mercies” against Beckelsgemeinde. "Grace" has d. Lutheran confession added. You shouldn't let them sit now.)
