From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 743. 1863, September 23, sent from Watertown by Moldehnke to Bading. Bading schlechter Rendant [?] oder er hat noch kein Geld. Watertown soll $2000.00 aufbringen, aber Bernhard (Schulsuperintendent) dagegen. Lande und Hoenecke nach West Bend, wo Muehlhaeuser sich wieder durch S. C. u. G. [Sauer, Conrad, und Giese] (nordwestlichen Konferenz) eingemischt hat. Streit in Watertown Gemeinde über Badings Reise. Weitere Frist. Böhmer blamiert uns noch weiter. Guerickes Sohn in Milwaukee. Wir können ihn gebrauchen (Er hat sich als Schwindler gezeigt.) Eichler hat sonderbaren Ton und Unkenntnis unserer Verhältnisse.

(Bading bad Rendant [?] or he has no money yet. Watertown is supposed to raise $2000.00 but Bernhard (school superintendent) objects. Lande and Hoenecke to West Bend, where Muehlhaeuser again interfered through SC & G. [Sauer, Conrad, and Giese] (Northwest Conference). Dispute in Watertown community over Bading's trip. Another deadline. Böhmer continues to embarrass us. Guericke's son in Milwaukee. We can use him (He has shown himself to be a swindler.) Eichler has a strange tone and ignorance of our circumstances.)
