From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

O., Clayton County, Iowa, by Schulz to Bading. 16 Meilen von Prairie du Chien hat Schulz ein Lehrer und Bekannter von Leuten in Theresa eine Gemeinde angewonnen die mit den Iowaern in Berührung stand. In der Nähe ist ein leichtfertiges Pastor Stockfeld und noch ein anderer früherer Ohioer aber ernster Mann Klein. Schulz will weg und bittet Prediger von Wisconsinsynode.

(16 miles from Prairie du Chien, Schulz, a teacher and acquaintance of people in Theresa, has acquired a church that was in touch with the Iowans. Nearby is a flippant Pastor Stockfeld and yet another former Ohioan but serious man, Klein. Schulz wants to leave and asks preacher from Wisconsin synod.)
