From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 579. 1862, January 21, sent from La Crosse by Fachtmann to Bading. Muss nach St. Paul, um als eventuell Nachfolger Heyers Probepredigt und mit Heyer Abendmahl zu halten. La Crosse Hauptpunkt für Ausbreitung der Synode. Gemeindeschule, die schon 2 deutsche Schulen der Atheisten und Deisten tot gemacht hat. Will nach St. Paul weil der Hauptpunkt für die Nord Westen und Gefahr von Methodisten, Albrechtsleute und Generalsynode. Röll soll kommen. Moldehnke soll inzwischen aushelfen.

(Must go to St. Paul in order to hold Heyer's trial sermon as a possible successor and to hold communion with Heyer. La Crosse main point for extension of synod. Community school that has already killed 2 German schools of atheists and deists. Wants to go to St. Paul because the main point for the North West and danger from Methodists, Alberts and General Synod. Roll should come. Moldehnke is supposed to help out in the meantime.)
