From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 584. 1862, February 15, sent from La Crosse by Fachtmann to Bading. Hat in Brownville, Minnesota und in deren Nähe zwei Gemeinden gegründet. Gehalt 200–300 Doll. Haake in Hustisford wäre der Mann. Auch eine Landgemeinde bei La Crosse, der ein alte Familienpaar in Mormon Cooley 80 Acker für $1000 abtreten will. Die kirchlichsten Glieder sind reformierte Schweizer. So geht nach Minnesota. Das wird sich der Synode auftun, und auf nächsten Synode kann für dort schon eine Konferenz gebildet werden.

(Planted two churches in and around Brownville, Minnesota. Salary 200-300 dollars. Haake in Hustisford would be the man. Also a country church near La Crosse that an old family couple in Mormon Cooley wants to sell 80 acres for $1000. The most ecclesiastical members are Reformed Swiss. So go to Minnesota. This will open up to the synod, and a conference can be set up for it at the next synod.)
