From the Collection: The bulk of these records consists of the correspondence recieved by the first four presidents of the Wisconsin Synod. The following men held the position and were elected pro-tempore:

Johannes Muehlhaeuser December 1849-June 1860

Johannes Bading June 1860-August 1863

Gotlieb Reim September 1863-June 1865

Wilhelm Striessguth June 1865 - June 1867

Johannes Bading June 1867 -June 1889.

The collection also consists of correspondence collected by from various personal collections as noted in Koehler's custodial history.

Koehler's Index: 597. 1862, April 25, sent from Clayton Centre, Iowa, by the church council to Bading. Senden Gemeindeordnung und bitten um Pastor. Mit Pastor Schulz war es nichts, der war nicht zum Pastoramt vorgebildet. Sie hätten gerne einen verheirateten Mann. Die Gemeinde ist noch jung, gehört zu keiner Synode, hat sich nur vor kurzem vergeblich auf Schulz Rat an Ohio gewendet.

(Send church bylaws and ask for pastor. It was nothing with Pastor Schulz, he was not trained for the pastorate. You would like a married man. The congregation is still young, does not belong to any synod, and only recently turned to Ohio on Schulz's advice in vain.)
